When you might need it
- It's been six months or more since your last check-up.
- Your gums bleed when you brush, or your breath is often unpleasant.
- You can see or feel hard yellow deposits on your teeth.
- You've never had a dental check-up, or you aren't sure when you last did.
- You want a plan for your teeth before any treatment.
How many visits, how long
A check-up and consultation takes about 20 minutes. Scaling and polishing takes about 40 minutes and is usually done in the same visit if you need it. Most people need just one visit; if Dr Tara finds something that needs treatment, she explains the options and books a time with you.
What happens, step by step
- 1
Dr Tara asks about your teeth, any pain, and the medicines you take.
- 2
She checks your teeth, gums and the rest of your mouth.
- 3
If needed, an X-ray is taken. You see it on the screen beside the chair and she explains it.
- 4
If your teeth have tartar on them, scaling and polishing removes it, usually in the same visit.
- 5
You get a plan, and a written estimate for any treatment over ₹2,000.
Aftercare
- Teeth can feel a little sensitive after scaling for a day or two. A toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help.
- Brush twice a day with a soft brush and clean between your teeth once a day.
- Light bleeding from the gums for a day or two can happen, especially if they were inflamed. Call us if it carries on.
This is general information. Your dentist will tell you what applies to your own treatment.

Every day we're openQuestions
How often should I have a check-up?
Most people do well with a check-up about every six months. Dr Tara may suggest a different gap if your teeth or gums need closer watching.
Does scaling damage my teeth?
No. Scaling removes hard deposits (tartar) from the surface of the teeth and below the gum line. Your teeth can feel a little sensitive for a day or two afterwards.
Do I need an X-ray at every check-up?
No. We take one only when the dentist needs it to see something she can't see by looking, and she shows it to you on the screen beside the chair.
